Fast and Furious & Lewinsky: It’s the Lie Stupid
The problem with Fast and Furious isn’t necessarily the botched operation. It’s also not the fact that the Bush administration shut down Gunrunner because it wasn’t working properly, only to have Holder restart it as Fast and Furious. Oh yes – if you’re not aware of the fact that Fast and Furious was not started by Bush, click here.
The problem the Democrats always seem to have isn’t the scandal itself, but the cover up. As if killing Americans with a botched operation wasn’t bad enough, lying to cover it up just piles on. And of course, just like with Clinton, the scandal isn’t what causes the impeachment or the contempt vote – it’s the lies.
Why, though, do the Democrats think it’s alright to lie under oath? And, why do they believe that the Republicans are the problem when the GOP leadership fights to hold them accountable?
Perhaps even more importantly, the Democrats don’t seem to understand the underlying problem with Fast and Furious: Attorney General Eric Holder, and/or his staff, botched Fast and Furious so badly that Americans died. There are families out there who want answers, and Rep. Issa’s committee is trying to help do just that through the subpoena power available to Congress. Holder has stonewalled for a year, lied to the committee (oh no, wait, I mean “retracted” comments — try doing that yourself in a court if you’re a witness), offered documents, wouldn’t produce the documents, and then ran to Obama for cover. The President who had nothing to do with Fast and Furious and learned about it in the news now suddenly has to claim executive privilege because he’s so involved in it that releasing the documents would damage the executive branch. Really? The lies just continue, but shh – don’t tell anyone.
Clinton lied about Lewinsky, was impeached, and the Republicans were the bad guys. Holder lied about Fast and Furious, was voted to be in contempt by the committee, and again – the Republicans are the bad guys.
Someone needs to tell the Democrats, “it’s the lie, stupid.”
