Is Your State Seceding?

20121112-172930.jpg

What does this mean for our nation? Are these secession petitions sincere? Should they be taken seriously?

There are more questions than answers at this point.

From POLITICO.com:

President Obama’s reelection last week has prompted a slew of requests to secede from the United States.

Using the Obama administration’s own We the People website, nearly two dozen petitions have sprung up asking the Obama administration for permission to withdraw from the Union.

The two most popular petitions, Texas and Louisiana, have both drawn more than 10,000 signatures each as of Monday morning. The Texas petition needs only 7,000 more signatures to trigger an official White House response.

None of the petitions explicitly cite Obama’s reelection as a reason for independence, but all were created after last week’s elections.

“The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the [National Defense Authorization Act], the [Transportation Security Administration], etc,” the Texas petition charges. “Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.”

They won’t be taken seriously by the White House. Though then again, the Community Organizer in Chief might just schedule a non-binding plebiscite so that he can prove that secessionists are a handful of right-wing wackos.

  2. Of course no state is proposing secession. These are the actions of disgruntled, frustrated individuals, who hold no official position, trying to misuse an electronic suggestion box in order to vent. They were misled by inaccurate polls, and they are unable to accept that their candidate lost. The states, well they still want that gubmint cheese.

If the Obama administration was smart about it, they could possibly turn it into a teachable moment. I have no idea if they will be smart. Insofar as the message is that people are suffering, I think we all already know that. If I were their webmaster, I would provide buttons for finding anger-management and other counseling resources in your locale. I certainly never took it so hard when W was elected. I just went back to work.

the secession petitions demonstrate this is a deeply divisive POTUS who is deaf to the voice of his populace. If a mere 1/3 of the red states would refuse to send their electors to vote in mid December, guess what? The Decision of who is Prez goes to the House.
