“Asleep At the Switch” by artist Katherine Trunk is a metaphor. It describes the way Trunk perceives events spiraling out of control in our Country and around the world while the Commander in Chief is asleep for the 3 a.m. phone call, so to speak. The artwork depicts a drowsy haze surrounding the president fast asleep. The crown in the background is symbolic of heavy handed, almost imperial-like rule, wielded by a leader who lacks awareness and competency, in the artist’s opinion.
