Rubio to give SOTU response in English and Spanish

In a press release from House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), we learn that Sen. Marco Rubio will be giving the response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union (SOTU) speech Tuesday evening. And, he will be giving the Republican response in both English and Spanish.

Boehner’s press release said that Rubio’s “family’s story is a testament to the promise and greatness of America,” and “he’ll deliver a GOP address that speaks from the heart to the hopes and dreams of the middle class; to our party’s commitment to life and liberty; and to the unlimited potential of America when government is limited and effective.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said, “Marco’s own experience as the child of immigrants has always informed his belief in limited government and free enterprise, which is why he has helped lead the fight against out-of-control spending and job-destroying tax hikes that continue to hold our economy back and stifle opportunity for millions,” McConnell said.

Rubio has a steep hill to climb on behalf of the Republican Party. In the 2012 re-election of Obama, 71% of Hispanics voted for Obama.

Could it be? Is it possible? Perhaps the GOP leadership is taking their heads out of their… the… sand? Couple this with the new outreach by Gov. Matinez and Gov. Sandival, I don’t know? Oh I hope so.
