Pope to resign Feb. 28
The text of the Pope’s resignation letter is as follows:
Dear Brothers,
I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strengthof mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me. For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.
Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.
From the Vatican, 10 February 2013
BENEDICTUS PP XVI

![The sheer breadth, ferocity and brazenness of an attack mounted by just 10 men made the 2008 Mumbai Massacre unique. The attack began 26 November, Wednesday, 2115 local, at the Chatrapati Shivaji Train Station (above), one of the world’s busiest, where two LASHKAR-E-TOIBA (LET) gunmen killed 58 and wounded 104 in minutes. For the next 2 hours, 10 terrorists launched a major assault every 15 minutes against 10 total targets. The Mumbai Massacre lasted four days and claimed nearly 200 lives. Concern about a Mumbai-style attack in the U.S. homeland has been a continuing concern for years. An example from a report I wrote 3 May 2010: “Our continuing concern is a Mumbai-style frontal assault stateside … that … would be pulled off by fidayeen” (militants who fight until dead). “Suicide attackers (Istishhad) [might] … be employed in a raid led and dominated by Fidayeen, as suicide bombers can be helpful in breaching fortified entrances, etc.” (Istishhad serve as artillery for Jihadi attackers.) Another example from a report dated 18 December 2010: In one of the most infamous Mumbai-style attack plots, Al Qaeda master tactician Ilyas Kashmiri planned to assault the Copenhagen offices of Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten or “JP,” the Danish paper marked for extermination for publishing cartoons of the prophet in 2005. (Still prime for attack, the “JP” is a desirable Jihadi target, because its 5 or 6 floors and street-corner location offer press coverage opportunities militants desire (photo). Fidayeen planned to storm the “JP” and parade hostages to either the upper deck or a blown-out side window on the top floor. Once the news media gathered on the street just 6 floors below, the terrorists would behead a “JP” staffer or guest, one by one, and drop each severed head to the street below. The terrorists calculated that they would need to drop 25 heads to build enough frenzy to trigger a kinetic raid by Danish Special Forces in which the brave Fidayeen would be “martyred.” (Mumbai police evidentiary photo.)](http://i0.wp.com/www.thebrennerbrief.com/wp-content/uploads/AP-AQAP-PIC-5.png?resize=150%2C125)

It’s so sad to see a Pope leave his position whether it be death or health. I sometimes wonder why the Pope chosen is so up in his years. Life is so short.
