The Next Generation at CPAC: Sen. Tim Scott
The theme of this year’s CPAC is The Next Generation of Conservatives. Today I have heard several of the young guns, and I have to say, I’m impressed!
Whether it be Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, or Ted Cruz, it is right to say we have a new generation of leaders in the pipeline. But my assignment today was to report on the newcomer to the group, the Senator from the great state of South Carolina, Tim Scott.
I had not heard much about this man so I had no preconceived notions prior to taking in his keynote address during the day here at CPAC 2013. Boy, was I surprised!
Tim Scott is a man of numbers and of vision. He rattled off statistics on taxes, the budget, and economic data like he was a Ben Bernanke redux. And, he coupled these with well thought out conservative ideas, a powerful combination.
Scott said:
“You win people, you win elections. Expand opportunities for conservative outreach. If you find your why, you find your way. Grow the economy, not our government. School choice, give a parent a choice and a child a chance.”
He’s a real policy wonk and a motivational speaker to boot.
I was heartened to hear an appointed Senator dig into the details as he did in this speech. He dug into the weeds. That means he has thought these ideas through. That can only work to his advantage when the liberal media tries to savage his prescriptions for helping minorities, Republicans, and the country.
The message here at this 40th anniversary at the Conservative Political Action Conference is the passing of the baton from the old generation to the new. Americans can be proud of the new generation of leaders coming down the pike. Perhaps there is hope for the future. We have proud new leaders facing new challenges with timeless principles.
